Phylum: Basidomycete Class: Agaricomycete Order: Polyporales Family: Polyporaceae Genus: Trametes Species: T. hirsuta Collection Location: This mushroom was collected on April 9th at Dale’s Ridge natural area outside of Lewisburg, PA. The sample was collected off of a decomposing log of a hardwood tree. Description: T. hirsuta is a white-rot, polypore mushroom that is a saphrobe on the deadwood of hardwood trees. The mushroom caps grow on top of each other and make irregular half circles connected to its substrate. The pileus is hairy and the lamellae is pored. Classification: Phylum Ascomycota Subphylum Pezizomycotina Class: Pezizomycete   Isolation and Culturing Methods: This sample was collected during an air spore drop collection in the Grove on Bucknell’s campus. The spore drop plate was left outside to collect spores for seven minutes. This sample was extracted from the spore drop plate and put on a separate MEA plate.   Description of macroscopic and microscopic characteristics: Hyphae regularly septate, without clamp connections, 4-5 um wide. Phylum Ascomycota   Isolation and Culturing Methods: This sample was collected during an air spore drop collection outside of the O’leary geology building. The plates were situated under an overhang next to a mulched flower bed. The spore drop plate was left outside to collect spores for three hours. Spores were collected on 02/26/18. This sample was extracted from the spore drop plate and put on a separate MEA plate for one week. Then this process was repeated to help isolate the sample on a separate MEA plate. Possible ID: Sordariaceae sp.   Classification: Phylum: Ascomycota Subphylum: Pezizomycotina *Class: Sordariomycetes *Order: Sordariales *Family: Sordariaceae   Isolation and culturing methods: Isolated from a plate placed under an air vent in the men’s bathroom on the third floor of the Rooke Biology building for around 10 minutes on February 19th of 2018. After being stored at room temperature for two weeks along with a multitude of other fungi, hyphae of the sample were taken from this plate and placed onto its own malt extract agar plate. Dried specimen

Phylum: Basidiomycota   Date collected: 4/9/18   Collection site: Collected on bark of hardwood tree in Dale’s Ridge park in Lewisburg, PA.   Appearance and growth: Cap measures 1-1.3 x 1.2-1.4 cm and is white, turning yellowish as it approaches the stem. It is smooth and chalky in texture and rubs off white on finger. Gills are present and spaced close together, light brown in color and crenate. Dried specimen appears to be eccentically attached to stipe. Spores: Spores measure 2.5-4×10-12.5 um and are oblong in shape. Irpex Lacteus

Possible ID: Irpex Lacteus Classification: Phylum: Basidiomycetes Class: Polyporales Order: Steccherinaceae Family: Irpex   Isolation and culturing methods: Isolated from a brush pile at Dales Ridge Trail, Lewisburg, PA. Sample was found lying next to other pieces of broken tree and was taken back to the lab to be assessed and placed in a family. The fungus was attached to a hardwood and was in the lab until further notice.   Culture appearance and growth: The surface texture is tough and it is an off white color. Possible ID: Trametes pubescens   Phylum: Basidiomycota Class: Agaricomycetes Order: Polyporales Family: Polyporaceae Genus: Trametes Date collected:4/9/18   Collection site: Isolated from Dale’s Ridge in Lewisburg, PA from branch of a hardwood tree.   Appearance and growth: Cap is thin, cream-colored to light gray, and is velvety/fuzzy in texture, measuring 4-4.5×3-4 cm. Grows encompassing branch and has yellowish pores.
