Oligoporus balsameus

Isolation and culturing methods:
This fruiting body was collected on April 2nd in Turtle Creek Park in Lewisburg, PA. It was collected from the ground under a fallen branch. It was placed in a paper bag and brought back to the lab to further analyze and identify.

Culture appearance and growth
The cap is large, around 6 cm at the larest diameter. The cap is irregularly oval shaped. It is very thin and easy to break. However, the cap is sticky corky. The hymenium is pored and dark brown. The cap also gens brown possibly with age.
