Trichoderma viride

Possible ID: Trichoderma viride

Phylum: Ascomycota

Class: Sordariomycetes

Order:Hypocreales

Family: Hypocreaceae

Isolation and culturing methods:

Air sample taken in the Grove for seven minutes. Air sample was taken on a plate with malt extract agar plus antibiotics. Air sample was stored at room temperature for one week in order to let collected culture grown. After one week, samples were taken and the isolates were transferred from the main plate to an new one with the same agar conditions. Isolate was stored at room temperature for one week in order to obtain pure culture.

Culture appearance and growth:

Teal-green spots produced embedded into the agar. White hyphae seemed to be surrounding clusters of spore production. Medium growth rate, spores and hyphae being produced, but not completely covering plate, in patches. Hyphae about 12.5-15.0 microns wide, septate but no clamp connections.

Spore production:

Spores are 7.0-7.01 x 7.5-7.6 microns and are embedded in agar. Appear green/teal to naked eye, little coloration when under the microscope. Fairly round, slight oval shape. Conidia produced ranging from 29.8-30.2 x 9.6-10.5 microns to 19.9-20.4 x 20.1-22.3 microns.
