“Common Split Gill” Schizophyllum commune

Possible ID Schizophyllum commune “Common Split Gill”

Isolation and culturing method :

This specimen was found while traversing Dales Ridge Trail in central Pennsylvania. These were found in a gregarious cluster. The bodies were found at all heights on the tree, and on the branches that littered the ground below the tree.

 

Culture appearance and growth:

The common split gill was found living saprobically on a living tree and a on a few branches that had seemingly fallen off the same tree below the living tree. The bodies were white, with gills on the underside. The bodies were anywhere from one third an inch to one and a half inches across. There were both central and lateral stipe attachments.

 

 

Spore production

No spore produced or found, sample was too old to obtain spore print and no spores were foind on the fruit body itself
