Ionomidotis irregularis

Phylum: Ascomycota Class: Pezizomycota Order: Leotiomycetes Genus: Ionomidotis Date collected: 4/9/18   Collection site: Collected on bark of hardwood tree in Dale’s Ridge park in Lewisburg, PA.   Appearance and growth: Cup measures 3-4 x 6-7 cm and is dark purple, growing in clusters on hardwood bark. No gills are present clustered cups are thin and flakey to touch. Stem not evident.

Possibly a False Morel

Possible ID A False Morel of Some Sort Classification: Phylum Ascomycota Class Pezizomycetes Order Pezizales Family Discineacae   Isolation and culturing method : This specimen was found on a hill on the Bucknell Campus in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. This was found slightly sticking out of the mulch. The mulch had to be dug about 6 inches to remove the entire fruit body. Sordariomycete

Possible ID: Sordariomycota   Classification: Phylum Ascomycota Class Sordariomycota   Isolation and culturing methods: Isolated from a soil sample that was then grown in a lab culture for multiple weeks. The soil was gathered from outside the Tau Kappa Epsilon house in Lewisburg PA, underneath the large tree out front. The sample was grown at room temperature for multiple weeks before any significant growth had happened. Possible ID: Mucor Classification: Phylum Zygomycota Class Mucouromycota Order Mucorales Family Mucoraceae Genus Mucor   Isolation and culturing methods: This specific culture was isolated from a plate that was placed underneath an air duct in the 3rd floor mens bathroom on the biology side of the Rooke Building located at Bucknell University. The plate was left under the duct for 2 hours and was left to grow for multiple weeks. Aspergillus

Possible ID: Aspergillus   Classification: Phylum Ascomycota Class Eurotiomycetes Order Eurotiales Family Trichocomaceae Genus Aspergillus   Isolation and culture methods: Isolated from a plate that was left outside for 2 hours in the Grove Park, Lewisburg PA. The sample was extracted from a plate with many different species on it and it took many times to isolate this organism into a pure culture. Possible Species ID: Trametes pubescens   Classification: Phylum: Basidiomycota Class: Agaricomycetes Order: Polyporales Family: Polyporaceae   Collection Location/Substrate: This specimen was collected April 15, 2018 at Dale’s Ridge Trail in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The specimen was growing on dead wood off the side of a trail. Conditions were cool and humid, average 11*C, intermittent light rain and wind.    Macroscopic Characters: Stipeless shelf with pileus covered in irregular white “fuzz” that was velvety to the touch. This specific specimen was found living about five feet above ground level on a living tree. The specimen were encountered when there was snow on the ground, in late fall/early spring.
