Sample #34
Possible ID:
Classification: Ascomycete sp.
Phylum Ascomycota
Isolation and Culturing Methods:
This sample was collected during an air spore drop collection outside of the O’leary geology building. The plates were situated under an overhang next to a mulched flower bed. The spore drop plate was left outside to collect spores for three hours. Spores were collected on 02/26/18. This sample was extracted from the spore drop plate and put on a separate MEA plate for one week. Then this process was repeated to help isolate the sample on a separate MEA plate.
Description of macroscopic and microscopic characteristics:
Hyphae regularly septate, without clamp connections, 3-5 um wide. Hyphae grow densely on plate and form small clumps that grow up towards the plate cover. Hyphae produce a light pink / light orange compound that grows into the agar.
