Possible Polypore

  Possible ID A Polypore Classification: Phylum Basidiomycota Class Agaricomycetes Order Polyorales Family   Isolation and culturing method : These were found on Dales Ridge in Central Pennsylvania. These were found about a foot off the ground on a stump.  They were growing in a cluster, on top of each other.   Culture appearance and growth: These fungi are the shape of half circles, with central stipes. Flavoparmelia caperata

  Possible ID Flavoparmelia caperata Classification: Phylum Ascomycota Class Lecanoromycetes Order Lecanorales Family Parmeliaceae   Isolation and culturing method : The sample was found on Dales Ridge trail in Central Pennsylvania. The specimen was found on a piece of bark on a dying hardwood tree. There were various types of fungi also cohabitating the dying tree. These lichens were found spanning the entire height of the tree, and were found on all sides of the tree. Possibly a False Morel

Possible ID A False Morel of Some Sort Classification: Phylum Ascomycota Class Pezizomycetes Order Pezizales Family Discineacae   Isolation and culturing method : This specimen was found on a hill on the Bucknell Campus in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. This was found slightly sticking out of the mulch. The mulch had to be dug about 6 inches to remove the entire fruit body. “False Tinder Conk” Phellinus tremulae

Possible ID “False Tinder Conk” Phellinus tremulae Classification: Phylum Basidiomycota Class Agaricomycetes Order Hymenochaetales Family Hymenochaetaceae   Isolation and culturing method : This was found at Dales Ridge Trail in Central Pennsylvania. This specific specimen was found living about five feet above ground level on a living tree. The specimen were encountered when there was snow on the ground, in late fall/early spring. Possible ID. Botrytis sp. Classification: Phylum Ascomycota Class Leotiomycete Order Helotiales Family Sclerotiniaceae   Isolation and culturing method : A moldy strawberry was removed from the fridge and a small amount of the material growing on the fruit was transferred to a M+C agar plate. The plate was left at room temperature for one week. A small section of the hyphae was then removed and plated on another M+C agar plate to produce a pure culture. Strawberry was grown in California. Small amount of soil centrifuged with water, plated, and grown at room temperature. Specific culture removed from plate by taking a clump of hyphae, re-plated four times on M+C agar plate to obtain pure culture.  Culture appearance and growth Surface texture looks bumpy. Jelly Ear

Classification: Phylum: Basidiomycota Class : Agaricomycete Order : Auriculariales Family: Auricularin Isolation and culturing method Found in central Pennsylvania on a mountain crest. Specifically found on a decaying log, in a gregarious cluster. Group of jelly ears are saprobic. Cluster was about waist height. Specimens are widely distributed on all continents and found during all seasons   Culture appearance and growth: Brown, gelatinous depressed pileus, fibrillose texture, crenulate margins, no lamellae. Stipe absent, attached centrally or laterally. Veined, smooth hymenium, silky or velvety to the touch. No odor, edible.
