Mucor miehei

Possible ID: Mucor miehei   Classification: Phylum: Zygomycota Class: Mucoromycotina Order: Mucorales Family: Mucoraceae   Isolation and culturing methods: Isolated from soil taken from outside of the gym. It had recently rained and the soil was hardening but still moist. Sample was not part of the serial dilution but the direct soil sample onto a plate with malt extract agar. Plates were stored at room temperature for a week then hyphae was transferred to a new plate in order to obtain a pure culture. Fusarium

Possible ID: Fusarium   Classification: Phylum Ascyomycota Class Sordariomycetes Order Hypocrales Family Fusarium   Isolation and culturing methods: Isolated from an agar plate that was placed near the creek by 7th St Café at Bucknell University (Lewisburg, PA). This plate was used when we were collecting spores from the outside environment for a lab. Plates were incubated at 20 degrees Celsius for a week or more. Possible ID: Auricularia auricula   Classification: Phylum Basidiomycota Class Agaricomycetes Order Auriculariales Family Auriculariaceae   Location: Ridge across from Turtle Creek Park, Lewisburg, PA. Habitat description: Hardwood forest Substrate/host organism: Fallen wood log on ground   General aspect/fruiting habit: Grew with multiple others, some clustered and some individuals. Gathered together and attached at a central or lateral position.   Fruiting body: Tough gelatinous skin in hydrated state when collected. Dry skin when dehydrated. Fruit body had a depressed pileus and entire/crenulate margins. No stipe present or very short stipe present. Smooth and wavy hymenium. Tan/brown in color. No odor.   […]

Possible ID Trichoderma sp. Classification: Phylum Ascomycota Class Sordariomycete Order Hypocreales Family Hypocreacea   Isolation and culturing method : Isolated from plate placed under air duct on the third floor of Rooke. Was on a plate with a variety of different fungi. Separated and placed on a plate of just agar. Plate was left alone for one week and then a small amount was transferred onto another plate of just agar to form a pure culture. Culture appearance and growth: Surface of plate looks scaly. Penicillium

Possible ID: Penicillium Classification: Dikarya Phylum: Ascomycota Class: Eurotiomycetes Order: Eurotiales? Isolation and culturing methods: Isolated from clementine mold. Sample was placed on malt extract agar + chloramphenicol and allowed to grow for a week. Pure sample was obtained by sectioning a small sample of the growth onto MEA plate.   Culture appearance and growth: Surface texture appears dark green and fuzzy, with white outer edges 1wk into growth. Specimen becomes dark green with grainy texture 3wks into growth, maintaining a thin white outer ring. Hyphae measure 2.5-4um wide, regularly septate with no clamp connections.
