Possible ID Sarocladium sp. Classification: Phylum Ascomycota Class Pezizomycotina Order Sordariomycetes Family Sarocladium    Isolation and culturing method From soil outside of LC. Small amount of soil centrifuged with water, plated, and grown at room temperature. Specific culture removed from plate by taking a clump of hyphae, re-plated four times on M+C agar plate to obtain pure culture.  Culture appearance and growth Surface texture looks bumpy. Central portion grows higher while external portions grow outward. Hyphae grows above agar, not in or below. Hyphae slender, about 5um wide. Septate with no clamp connections. Jelly Ear

Classification: Phylum: Basidiomycota Class : Agaricomycete Order : Auriculariales Family: Auricularin Isolation and culturing method Found in central Pennsylvania on a mountain crest. Specifically found on a decaying log, in a gregarious cluster. Group of jelly ears are saprobic. Cluster was about waist height. Specimens are widely distributed on all continents and found during all seasons   Culture appearance and growth: Brown, gelatinous depressed pileus, fibrillose texture, crenulate margins, no lamellae. Stipe absent, attached centrally or laterally. Veined, smooth hymenium, silky or velvety to the touch. No odor, edible.

Possible ID: Aspergillus   Classification: Phylum Ascomycota Class Eurotiomycetes Order  Eurotials Family Trichomaceae   Isolation and culturing methods: Isolated from a soil sample that was taken from the soil right outside of the ELC at Bucknell University (Lewisburg, PA). The soil sample was serially diluted by water and then plated on an agar plate. The plate was untouched for a week and then a small amount of hyphae was taken and put on a smaller agar plate to obtain a pure culture. Classification: Phylum zygomycete Class mucoromycotina Order mucorales Family Rhizopodaceae   Isolation and culturing method Isolated from plate placed under air duct on the third floor of Rooke. Was on a plate with a variety of different fungi. Separated via removing small piece of hyphae and placed on a plate of just agar. Possible ID: Trichothecium Classification: Dikarya Phylum: Ascomycota Class: Sordariomycetes Order: Hypocreales   Isolation and culturing methods: Isolated from decompositions of maple leaves after 6 weeks. Sample was placed on malt extract agar + chloramphenicol and allowed to grow for a week. Pure sample was obtained by sectioning a small sample of the growth onto MEA plate.   Culture appearance and growth: Surface texture appears white and fuzzy above a dark green foundation. Sample was placed on malt extract agar + chloramphenicol and allowed to grow for a week. Possible ID: Rhodotorula glutinis   Classification: Phylum: Basidiomycota Class: Pucciniomycota Order: Sporidiales Family: Sporidiobolaceae   Isolation and culturing methods: Isolated from a plate that was left outside for 2 hours in The Grove Park, Lewisburg PA. Sample was put into its own plate and attempted to be put into its own pure culture multiple times over. After the 3rd time the sample had grown in a pure culture.
